The end of last girls lacrosse season brought the loss of several senior members and only two wins; however, after initial practices of this season, team members have hope of recovery and improvement. A mix of veterans and first timers, the first practice has left experienced players cautious, yet optimistic.

“I think we’ll do well this year,” junior Sierra Bean said. “We’ll just have to work hard. We’ve got a good-sized crop, but a lot of these girls haven’t touched a lacrosse stick before.”

Veterans recognize the difficulty of lacrosse, as well as the intimidating reputation that many contact sports have, but hope that new players commit, arguing that learning new skills and participating in athletics far outweigh the time and dedication required.

“It’s a super fun sport and it takes a lot of work,” junior Kaiberly Cournoyer said. “But once you get the hang of it, it’s really worth it.”

Older team members note that both of last season’s wins were against Wooster and the loss of several graduated members makes for a less than ideal starting point for the team. That said, they intend to create a tightly-knit and competent team, not only through hard work at practices, but also through auxiliary team bonding events. The team’s next practice is February 23, and the girls intend to be prepared for their first jamboree on March 7.

*Editor’s Note: Girls Lacrosse is not a school sanctioned sport.
